There should be an option for "It was the cheapest console" which I'm betting would be the most popular option if you asked everyone who owns a wii why they bought it.

Eh, the X360 is cheaper. The longer this gen goes on, the less this seems to ring true.

Anyway, my main reason is definitely the local multiplayer games. Nintendo has always had the best local multiplayer (though the GC wasn't so hot). Stuff like brand loyalty, exclusives, or motion controls are either related or a result of this. The Wii's whole focus on fun tends to do its job better when involving more than one person in the room.

Of course, Zelda and other single player games are a major factor as well, but since I feel the HD consoles generally match this, it's not as big a deal (or at least, not the reason it's my preferred console).

You do know the 360 wasn't always the cheaper console correct?

Not surprising some would take the price issue outside of the context under which they bought X console.

For almost 3 years, it would have been a bargain to pay only $250 retail for a Wii thanks to short supplies, price gouging/forced bundles and scalpers.
