Or Nintendo just understimated demand. 500k for the first week in the U.S. was the highest entry week for a mario. I could guess that the same thing is true for Europe (about 200k is the highest week).
Europe wasn't exactly Nintendo Console lovers (but handhelds). Because of the production shortage they may decided long ago how much to produce, and after seeing that preorders are higher than initial supply there wasn't any production capacity left to produce more. Galaxy sold nearly 1 Million copies in US+EU in its first week (same launch week), according to ioi's data. And even if some think thats a failure, it is not, thats a really really really nice number for a mario first week.
Hopefully Nintendo can supply more in the short future, because Galaxy is a good gift game. Having supply to meet demand before christmass would be really good.
And the demand for this game must be high. 3 week on sale, nearly no drop in sales. It is doing outstanding.
