Confused at te OP. If MAss Effect was like any of the games you mention it would destroy the combat. IMO. The combat was a perfect tactical shooter mechanic, with the emphasis on thought. Not twitching.

I didn't find it very tactical at all. Sure, you can fiddle with conclusive shot...and team members powers. But why would you bother when you can put the fire bullets add-on and plow enemies while under cover.

But I see why the combat is like it is for the first half of the game. Game is wonderful at showing character growth. This is both when it comes to story and action. Powering up, and fighting tougher enemies near the end makes the game more intense...along with making decisions which may affect the games outcome.

I started on Insanity. I thought it was fairly hard.

yeah...I should have played on hard. I don't play these games very often so I figured its best if I back down and do normal. Was a bit too easy...

Its not all about dificulty though. the last level showcases the intensity I was talking about. And kudos to Bioware for making that intensity come through without being cheap by spamming with enemies or making it rediculously hard.
