It's NPD week and we'll soon see how 2010 began for gaming. After finishing off the year with huge hardware and software sales, gaming seemed to be doing pretty well. With some major titles being released in January and in the early months of the game, it feels like the holiday season never stopped.

With some major releases in January like Bayonetta and Mass Effect 2, software sales for the month will likely be high, as should hardware sales. Wedbush Morgan has released their predictions for the hardware sales of January.

Hardware Prediction via Wedbush Morgan:
Nintendo Wii - 555,000
Sony PS3 – 330,00
Microsoft Xbox 360 – 340,00
Sony PS2 – 75,000
Sony PSP - 150,000
Nintendo DS – 525,000

These numbers aren't particularly strong for January, though they aren't low either. Last January hardware sales followed as:

Last January Hardware Sales via NPD Data:
Nintendo Wii: 679,000
Sony PS3: 203,000
Microsoft Xbox 360: 309,000
Sony PS2: 101,000
Sony PSP: 172,000
Nintendo DS: 511,000

The most obvious difference is PS3 hardware sales growth, while the rest are either consistent with the sales of last year, or slightly lower. With the official numbers set to release on Thursday, it'll be interesting to see how close the Wedbush predictions are to the actual totals and how much the totals vary from last year's figures.
