Right now ... it is a rumor. No official word has either confirmed or denied this to the best of my knowledge (the OP does not count).
What I do not understand is why anyone would be against this. Because if it was done by Nintendo people, it would be done well.
As far as whether or not it is true, remember that most of the talk was that much of the game was being done with the parts that did not make SMG(1). That is probably the strongest argument against at this time.
