Normally, story should not be used as a crutch for poor gameplay. But a game like Heavy Rain where gameplay is just about almost entirely embedded with the story, it becomes like watching a movie and if the movie is good, no problems. This is why I can enjoy Ace Attorney and Hotel Dusk but not many modern console jrpgs. Even if a jrpg were to have a good story, if I have to go through a lot of boring gameplay to uncover more of that story, I`m not going to bother. Wheres with say Heavy Rain, it`s not your going through boring as hell encounters one after another in some long ass dungeon to uncover more story. QTE is corny but hey, I could live with it. |
I like QTEs, especially in GOW when I'm brutally killing someone or something. If what's on the screen is awesome to watch and rewarding I'd rather a QTE over a regular gameplay death anyday. If the slightest of movements is necessary in the action of a video game I'll gradly do QTE the whole time. It's better than just unprecise regular action and it's better than not being involved in the action and just watching a cutscene.
