I liked theprofs explanation earlier I would only add that during busy peak times the channel/pipe can be emptied quicker and more supplies be in the supply chain. In particular decisions are made about Air Frieght versus shipping. Shipping from Asian would to the US for example would normally take in excess of 10 days on top of that they need to clear customs which can add another 4 days. These could easily be big shipments during the busy replenishment cycle.
I would then suggest adding something like this to a FAQ which may go a long way to helping with this problem.
