You can't see your own health, but you can see healthbars for your teammates (though I play as a medic, so that could be medics only for all I know). I think there is some regeneration, but I honestly don't know how it works. My guess is that it is very slow, but there none the less. In the heat of battle, you still need medics if you want a useful healthboost though.
It might not be that helpful, but that's what I've been able to gather 
EDIT: Kylie seems to know what he is talking about, and that's pretty much the same experience for me, so "What KylieDog said".
