I think the tremendous reception of the slim will force M$ to cut prices a bit sooner than preferred, but this also will force Sony to react sooner...the death spiral is great for customers, imho.  The unknown factor is Natal...and the reception it gets on launch...if it's a big deal...profits will have to come from PSN (possible sub fees) and software to keep pace on the price per console.
