Apparently the eidolons are also meant to be the "opposite" of the main cast, so its like a opposites attract kinda thing.
Vanille is cute & gentle, her summon is dark & has guns
Snow is wannabee badass & tough, shiva is more graceful & so on
Someone on ffxiii.net did a very good comparison between the whole cast as a speculation.
I really wanna see how the eidolons tie in to the story & so on.
