I think he mentioned on one of his youtube videos quite a while back that the game they were working on was a new IP.
Although it seems he considers the reinvention of the series as being akin to creating something entirely new.
So it might be twisted metal, or it might not be. I think there might be a lot of dissapointed gamers if it turns out not to be though.
