Nintendo was the biggest winner last year, outselling its rivals Sony and Microsoft.
Americans spent a record US$5.53 billion on video games last year, the most money ever in a single month, according to NPD Group
Hardware sales jumped 16% to US$2.19 billion. The Nintendo Wii sold 3.8 million units more than Sony and Microsoft's combined. It set a record for most gaming systems sold in a single month.

Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros Wii was the top selling game last month followed by Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort. Activision's Call of Duty rounded up the top five, with the 360 version and the PS3 version coming in fourth and fifth place respectively
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox was 2009's best selling game but the year's big winner was Nintendo, which its games made up seven of the top ten games sold.
