To be blunt, I don't give a F***; its Nintendo and Mistwalker!!! OMGWTFBBQ

But seriously, I trust that with Nintendo at the helm, it will be an effective RPG. I don't think FF9 sold as much as its predecessors, but regardless of that, Ninty will take "Gooch"'s form and make it appeal to a wider demographic somehow. Not by "casualizing" it, but giving themes or a presentation that more people will accept.

Nintendo stated before they wanted an RPG to compete with an FF, so this might/is* be it. Xenoblade is a different beast altogether. They really want to revitalize the Japanese market. Dropping two RPGs with years of dev time is a surefire way of doing it.

Just when I thought they were lazy LOL, they announce two titles in genres which require some of the most work of any games.

Highly doubt thats even possible

Well, there are jRPG's already that beat Final Fantasy, but in the traditional sense of competing with it, ie. trying to make a 'better' Final Fantasy, you're right that would be pretty much impossible. But the two ways it could beat Final Fantasy is by not competing directly, perhaps by having a different (and wider) appeal, as Dragon Quest does, or by being disruptive. Ie. by abandoning one of the core values of Final Fantasy that is keeping it back in favour of a new value. It would be like NSMB Wii disrupting 3D Mario by abandoning 3D and adding the new value of simultaneous multiplayer.

I have my own thoughts on how they could do this.

PM me those thoughts; I would like to hear em'
