Oh, that makes sense then. My bad. You've shown me the light. I predict FFXIII will sell 200 copies in its first week. |
I'll elaborate for you then ...
The Final Fantasy series has never been released for a home console which wasn't already the dominant console on the market in Japan; the Playstation and PS2 both sold over 5 Million units in Japan before Final Fantasy was released for these systems. Now, the PS3 is currently one of the slowest selling videogame consoles of all time in Japan and will be lucky to sell 2 Million units before Final Fantasy is released; at the same time, high quality sequels on the PS3 (Virtual Fighter, Ridge Racer) are selling at 20% of the level that the previous version sold on the PS2. From what we have seen, there is reason to believe that Final Fantasy XIII will sell far below expectations but it is nearly impossible to say how far; the retorical question I asked involving 500,000 units was choosen because 500,000 units would be considered a smashing success for some games (Blue Dragon for example) but would be considered a massive falure for Final Fantasy.
Bringing up Gundam Musou was to demonstrate how the Famitsu weekly most popular chart does not reflect the views of the gaming public in general. Gundam Musou was highly placed on Fimitsu's weekly most popular chart since it was announced, Hyped to sell like Final Fantasy, was reasonably well recieved (33/40 in Famitsu is considered a very good score) yet only increased PS3 sales by 30,000 units and sold 275,000 copies of the game.
Certainly, the games on that list will sell well but I suspect that even Final Fantasy XIII will not sell like Final Fantasy.
