There's a lot of hate in this thread for MS and what happened in japan. For me, the truth is that they really tried, and it hasn't worked like they wanted simply because the japanese are inherently resistant to western consoles and games, and also haven't jumped like crazy at the HD bandwagon.

You can't tell the 360 doesn't have great games, it does, it works well, has the best online, and MS did try hard with japanese exclusives, even though the quality / quantity ratio isn't the best.

The japanese market is in a weird state these last few years, but ultimately, I think Xbox will never get traction there because it's an american console.

Or because the console is faulty and unreliable and they know it, why does everything have to be blamed on Japan and the people, you're basically calling them racist, maybe they just aren't interested in the concept of roid freaks with big guns and military shooters, I don't really blame them.

That's your opinion btw @ the bolded quote

Why don't you place the blame on Microsoft for rushing their console when they really shouldn't have? Where is the blame on Microsoft? They deserve most of the blame, not Japan.

Yes, i know the console used to fail quite a bit. The PS1 and PS2 also failed quite a bit, and nobody raised that much hell against them. I've had 2 PS2s for example, and my almost 3 year old Xbox never broke down, for example. And i'm not even getting to the fact that MS actually treated their costumers well for the most part with the warranty, I know some pretty bad horror stories from Sony of the PS1/PS2 breakdowns, simply because they didn't care, because it didn't turn into a PR nightmare like the 360 did.

In other words, yes the console had problems, but they were blown out of proportion due to anti-MS sentiment, and this isn't 2007 or 2008, we're in 2010, get over it. Besides, it's historic that japanese tend to dislike more western style gaming, and it's also pretty well known how japanese typically view outsiders.

Your post is overly anti-MS and it shows.

The reason for MS treating there customers better is simply because if they didn't extend the warranty and play nice, they'd be looking at literally millions of lawsuits which would cost them a lot more in the long run and give them terrible PR. The failure rate was also much higher than PS1 & 2 (and they were pretty high). Sony managed to get away with it because the failure rate was still near the expected failure rate for electronics.

Secondly, the Japanese appreciate reliable and quality tech. They're simply light years ahead of anyone else when it comes to technology. When you have that amount of negative PR about reliability, coupled with the terrible reliability of the Japanese X-box 1s power supply you generate a terrible reputation for the Xbox brand. MS have gotten Japanese devs on board and gotten Japanese games on there system, so it's not anti-western ideals that have made the Japanese anti-X-box.

Also, have you seen some of the Japanese 360 adverts? they're as bad as Sony's orginal PS3 ads.
