Better than any Final Fantasy game. Even 6. Had great personality and a powerful story that didn't knock you over the head. Not to mention the very fun combat and God-like music. The best music in a game besides Zelda: Oot and Zelda: MM.

To be honest, I think Mitsuda surpassed his work in Chrono Trigger with Chrono Cross, however, Chrono Cross was a shitty game and so the music isn't as memorable. I casually listen to Chrono Cross music all the time, despite never beating (nor enjoying) Chrono Cross.

Chrono Trigger is my number 1 game of all time though, in my opinion it does everything perfectly, and nothing poorly. Great character development and backstory, some nice plot twists, superb pacing, no random battles, beautiful art design, haunting melodies, replayability, tons of stuff to collect; Chrono Trigger had it all.

My favorite moment of CT is probably when you go to Magus' castle, I adore the ending you get when you beat the game early after obtaining the Masamune. Seeing Frog's silhouette atop Magus' castle is absolutely epic.

Curses, I've beaten CT well over 50 times, but this thread makes me want to play it yet again.
