Malstrom brought up good points on his blog. Ask yourself these 2 important question:
- Is this a game that you see yourself replaying after the initial playthrough
- Do you see yourself, and most others, playing this game 10, 15, 20 years from now?
I'll admit that Galaxy was an amazing game, but like most games nowadays it now sits in its case after finishing it. I even had to quit the game halfway through the Luigi playthrough due to a lost of interest (but I did eventually finish it, unlike Sunshine which I traded back before getting all 120 shines). Galaxy was a great one time experience, but I would have regretted my purchase if not for the fact I picked it up for 30 dollars on sale.
Mario 5, on the other hand, is still a blast months after release (both solo and multiplayer). Unlike Galaxy, I found myself replaying a lot of stages just for fun. I see this game joining the ranks of Mario 3 and still being played a decade from now, unless Nintendo obsoletes it with a far better game.
