i really dont get how they lose money when their phones are on of the more popular ones for old farts due to it being free with a 2-year contract on most cases.

They are loosing money because they spend this insane ammounts on R&D and on some ideas that seems to be insane sometimes.

A few monts ago we had an article about their projects that no one ever gets to see that was about sending smells from one phone to another like sending sms and the ammount of money they threw into that project was insane. Dont remember the ammount though but i remember thinking WTF when i read about it and thats only one of many projects like that.

that doesnt sound like that bad of an idea really... sending smells. I would love to piss my friends off by sending them the smell of a pizza around dinner-time =D

The insane part was the ammount of money they actually used for it, thay spend lots and lots of money on how to evolve phones and figuring out how phones will be used in 5,10,25 and 50 years from now and thay creat theese prototypes to show them off which then never really is used in their phones.

actually all big electronics companies do that though, im pretty sure IBM and Intel both have ideas on where processors and PCs will be in the next 40 years.
