Now I'm confused...
I thought the expression was "came on like gangbusters" meaning really loud and obnoxious. Apparently it was a radio show in the 30's.
As for expressions meaning "it sold a lot". I was aware of, "it sold like hot cakes", but not "it sold like crab cakes". I must say that I have never heard the crab cake line before. Actually I kind of like it as that is the only positive thing that comes from my hometown.
