Fanboyism is not in any way Video-game related, it is a basic human behavior you can practically find anywhere.

i think it dates all the way back to the cavemen, when every day decisions still were about living another day.

there was probably the one clan who said, meat would keep best when its smoked over fire, the others said no, the meat has to be cured, and the third wanted to keep their meat in the snow, to stay fresh.
and they would keep arguing what method was the best, secretly wanting to try the others, but not admitting to it!

Of course, back then it was an important matter to do the right thing, make the right decision, so you would live another day or during a cold winter, and these old habits are hard to get rid of!

...oh, and there was a fourth clan that kept their meat in the latrine, but history has never heard from them again

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’
