Back to topic, it is not like i hate Zelda (i wrote, dislikes : P ), i appreciate it as a good franchise, the OoT was a huge step forward at the time, but right now, it is not like it has reinvented itself. You may talk about the Wind Waker, the DS games, the Twilight Princess, but the mechanic is the pretty much the same. Compared to other franchises that reinvented themselves in the last generation (Metroid Prime Series, F-Zero on the GCN was a great speed focus game insted of the hability focus of the N64, Soul Reaver´s transformation into Soul Calibur, or the Super Mario 3D(N64, Sunshine, Galaxy) for the New Super Mario Bross), well the list can increase a lot, but what i mean is the lack of innovation it has, as i remember, the Zoras were also frozen in OoT and now they are frozen in Twilight Princess, please, at least boil them the next time so Zelda and Link could eat fresh fishes ! XD XD XD
Kidding !
I would like to hear about a Zelda in other game-play situation, it would be too risky to have a First Person Adventure as the Metroid Prime, but they launched a Zelda Crossbow training at the beginning of the Wii generation and it was not that bad received.
I know it is hard to accomplish the high goals that a game such a Zelda generates in each itineration, but just changing the mastermind behind the game could bring new ideas to the franchise without altering the style of game.
What about new species to fight with, to fight for or to fight against ? What about more sidequest like those found in the RPG games ? Dont you think they could experiment with the loved-hated Pokemon style in the handhelds and bring them to the bigger systems ?
Mmm, anyways, it is not like i wont be buying any other Zelda series, i just think they might have a chance as long as they reinvent themselves, i mean, real reinvention, not the same Gerudos problems, Zora´s problems, and so on . . . |
Majora's Mask was an innovation, and Phantom Hourglass as well. (they changed up the gameplay feel quite a bit) Zelda Wii is going to have Motion+, so its almost definitely going to at least have similar innovation Phantom Hourglass had - and Aonuma already stated they're changing it up. Its just a shame we have to wait so long to figure out what it is >_<
I don't think Metroid has changed that much ever since it went FPS. All 3 games weren't all that different, but yeah, it does better than Zelda has so far when it comes to innovation.. So lets place our bets on Zelda Wii and Metroid: Other M
