I would like to comment on God Of War.
Though the game may be excessive in tearing off enemies heads and such I do believe it is a very integral part to understanding the character and his psyche and thus understanding the game. The whole game is about his anger, the torture he's endured and his hate and the destruction he causes and his becoming of an unstoppable Warrior, the new God Of War. The way in which he kills his enemies is very very important in showing this to the player. Without it the game would not succeed, it would fall flat. And as it is a very important part of story telling it actually achieves as much maturity as possible in a game. Now if it wasn't integral to the character, then I would agree that it is trying "too hard" but I just cannot agree with you guys on it because I understand the importance of it to developing what is Kratos, The God of War.
As for the women, not so important. Though they do mention in the storyline about how no matter how many women he sleeps with he can't be satisfied or something like that. It's also part of the character development but it could have easily been done away with. However, I don't believe there was that many moments with naked women in the God Of War games and it was more of a *wink* to the gamer rather than "I think having naked women will be the most coolest, bad ass thing ever in games."
Excessive, yes. Unnecessary, no. It's very important.
The cussing in Army of Two however did feel very forced and pointless so I'd have to agree with that. I don't think that amount was very integral to developing the premise of the game or the characters.
