Higher userbase doesn't always equate to higher sales. Perhaps that would be the case if FF13 was announced as a wii game from the start but even then, I doubt it because FFXIII sold pretty similar to its previous iterations on ps3s meager userbase alone.

Larger userbases do affect upper limits of sales... Wii's best selling game in Japan is at 3.6m, PS3's is at 1.8m.
I'd say a Wii FFXIII would've matched FFX (and exceeded FFXIII PS3) for sales in Japan. In the west is where it would tumble though, as I think a lot of FF's expanded western audience are more PlayStation faithful, plus big Japanese 360 games tend to do well regardless.

lol, the hate for FFXIII is why it hasn't done as well as FFX. People complaining about one thing after the other. It's on track to be more hated than FFXII. Except the wii version of FFXIII was going to a completely different game, I dont see how your idea would come to fruition. Right now, my view of a wii version is the same FFXIII with a much lower res presentation. If anything the ps3 has the extra few who just bought it because the graphics were great (I personally know people like this).
Your idea would only apply to a more mainstream game but JRPGs or hell even RPGs period aren't mainstream. I don't know anyone who plays games on a more casual basis who plays RPGs. FF is mostly bought FF fans and not much else. I dont see the wii's extra userbase making much of a difference in that respect.

Both DQ9 & FF13 are supposedly "hated", yet both have sold extremely well & both got rave critic reviews in japan
Its clear the majority liked both games.

The fact that maybe 20% of the FF userbase may dislike the game, wont stop it from being #2. FF is a huge series so 20% lost would hardly stop it from winning such an award in Japan. With regards to critics, it should also be noted that the most hated current FF game (FFXII) was the only one to score 40/40 from famitsu so please stop using that as a beacon to present any argument.

From amazon user reviews, like most FF's before it FF13 gets 5/5's the most, FF12 got a 1 the most

How are you deciding this, lowest metacritic? lowest user review score? lowest sales?or is it just that you remember FF12's hate because it was released a few years ago?
I am sure FF8/FF10-2 is as hated as FF12
