Nintendo did not build the Wii for the gamer who wants HD graphics, online and DLC. They built is as a tool to get everyone else playing games. To that end they are doing extremely well and can continue to do so for years to come.
I don't think Nintendo is lazy. I think Nintendo understands their market. The casual gamer doesn't want bigger, badder, better games. They want fun, accessible games. Especially games you can play together. By together I mean with family & friends not some stranger.
IGN is the old guard, one screaming in defiance as the land they once thought was exclusively theirs is now overrun with ghouls er, girls.
If you want HD, more online, more DLC, more single player experiences, etc. Get an HD console. Nintendo tried and failed to compete one on one with Sony and MS last gen. They realized that was a dead end and that market is imploding. This gen, they went out and found thier own audience instead of fighting for scraps of the core.
You may not like it. That's understandable. But you look at how much money Nintendo is making - billions, then the combined total of the rest of the industry - billions - in the hole, and you begin to realize that Nintendo is the only thing saving the games industry from itself.
