I don't like watching people have breakdowns, so this is actually kind of hard to read.

Somebody having such a negative reaction to a game selling well - to people having fun with it, and their friends buying it as a result - is distressing in and of itself. I winced, reading this.

And the whole "NSMBWii plays just like the DS game" memetic needs to die

werd i played both, and they are different.

but....he having a breakdown because he is trying to get people to see his point, but no one will listen (since it got platformer of the year and all)...i agree with him to some extent though

What exactly do you agree with him on? That New Super Mario Bros. Wii isn't as awesome as sales suggest? That, in fact, it's mediocre? That's the word he assigned to it: "mediocrity".

I couldn't disagree with him more if he were trying to tell me God Hand sucks (ha-HA, IGN...), but that isn't really the point. The man is having a breakdown. In public. He's letting everyone see him tattoo his heart onto his bicep, with all the pettiness and ugliness made plain to the world. I'm embarrassed for him. I'm ashamed for him.

well he is a writer, so he is supposed to write about things pertaining to his opinion and receive hits for the site, so yeah i mean its his job, right now your showing your colors by being ashamed of him because he wants to express his opinion as a writer

and i agree with him on the fact that mario galaxy is top notch stuff nintendo should be doing, not bringing a game that has no online co-op or any more than 4 characters, they should be bringing us some online,  and more characters, maybe a little comical story or something (just examples)....all these things are possible on the wii but the developers played it safe (some call it laziness) with this game forsure. you cannot seriously say that they worked 100 percent on this, and i will go as far as to say that they do not deserve the sales, surely its a great game, but to cash in such an ammount of money for little effort is what annoys me, and it annoys me even more that people dont see that.

Proffesional writers express things... well proffesionally....

the article doesn't quite come off as proffesional... it comes off as well... embarrising.

It reminds me of when one of my friends would drunkenly complain that his band wasn't getting a chance when people with less talent got all the credit and hype.

whats professional about writers writing about games? i think jokes and hahas have to come into play when you write about games.. .

He gets paid at IGN right?

Also, proffesional writers tell jokes... all the time.  Have you never read a newspaper or ESPN or something.

yes i have >_>

but how proffesional can you be when writing about games....i mean hes trying to give points on how NSMB is not all that good, and gives jokes to back it up, sure some cross the line, but its the way he wants to write it to get his point across

You can be very professional when writing about games.

Look at the writers at ESPN.  Most of them are very proffesional and they're writing about proffesional sports.

proffessional sports are no more a "serious" topic then videogames.

The thing is... he' isn't trying to give points on how NSMB isn't that good... he's having a breakdown.  If he was trying to give points and his opinion on it he would do it in a more proffesional way... which could in fact include jokes.

The article he posted seemed like nothing more then some random breakdown a forum poster here would post.  He should be ashamed at getting paid for writing such a thing.

its not, this editorial is actually boasted by other editors (check out gamescoop podcast)...all of them agree with this editorial and so do i, you may say hes having a breakdown, but he just expressing his opinion and his job entitles him to do so, he brings up GREAT points, whether he has bad jokes or anger issues, his point is still damn good

You couldn't be missing the point harder if you tried...

Proffesionalism has no bearing on what your trying to argue.

You could argue that Hitler was right and do it in a proffesional way.

WHAT IS A PROFESSIONAL WAY (BTW YOU KEEP SPELLING IT WRONG)?....seriously, forget all that crap, he brings up a good point, yes the article is not the best thing written on the internet, but IT BRINGS UP GOOD POINTS, thats all that matters to me, its a good article overall, YOU couldnt be missing the point if you tried, i dont care he wrote it in baby language, or if he spelled the whole thing wrong, or if ESPN has better writers, his point is valid, how he expresses it should not be pointed as an embarrassment just because hes bashing someones favorite game, if he said OH MGS4 has long ass movies, i would not call it embarrassing, its A VALID POINT and should be expressed in whichever way he wants
