Console Sales in Japan

If you align the launch dates of the Playstation 3, Saturn, and Dreamcast, in Japan, you will see that the Saturn, and Dreamcast, marginally outsold the Playstation 3.

Playstation 3: 1,244,056

Dreamcast: 1,251,244

Saturn: 1,270,243

Pretty interesting how closely the Playstation 3 is following the routes of the Saturn, and Dreamcast, in Japan. They are all, virtually in the exact same position, except that the Playstation 3 is doing just a little bit worse.

I'm actually surprised how well the Saturn did in Japan. It actually defeated the Nintendo 64.

The Xbox, and Xbox 360, however, are doing horrible in Japan. Even though the Xbox 360 has outsold the original Xbox, for the same amount of time the Xbox 360 has been out, they are both, far under the Playstation 3. However, apparently, the Xbox, and Xbox 360, have outsold the Sega CD, and NeoGeo Pocket, in Japan which really surprises me. Looks like Microsoft's consoles are not the worst in Japan. Than again, the Sega CD is a console add-on, and the NeoGeo Pocket is a portable console.

Will the Playstation 3 ever outsell the Saturn, and Dreamcast, in Japan? Will the Xbox 360 ever become more popular in Japan?
