The five demos are still up. I recommend the NyxQuest and Bit.Trip.Beat ones in particular. Darklord is good too. Didn't try Rumble, though.
Swords and Soldiers IS fun, but it's also a very streamlined RTS; once built, units go forward at a constant pace, and you no longer have any control over their actions. The strategy comes in the form of what you build, when you build it, and when/where you use your magic attacks.
No word on another Advance Wars, but you should pick up its spiritual sequel, Batallion Wars II, if you haven't already. I think you'd like it.
