As someone pointed out already, HD is likely the new Laserdisc format. Its better than any previous format but the previous format is good enough for most people.
Seriously, try to drill your old folks on HDCP, HDMI 1.2 vs. 1.3, HD Ready, HD Ready 1080p, 1080/24p etc. Most film buffs care, the rest of the population could care less.
I hope I'm wrong about it since I'd love to see HD formats flourish but I think I'm right.
Let's just hope it doesn't end up like D-VHS. :)
