3d will become a trend sony also said a lot about 3d in CES 2010

Early 3D adopters...we are all watching sony right now actually. They made some crazy promises with 3D and PS3...we are all curious how it will work.

Could you lay out the situation for me? I'm no expert on 3D, and I didn't follow their CES conference either, but I am curious no less.

The Sony conference annoucne 3D blurays are coming and ps3 will be able to play them.

3D video works by showing the same video twice, slighly skewed on top of each other. In order not to see blinking and for you not to get a severe eyestrain and a headache, this video needs to be shown at:

- 1 stream of 120 hz refresh rate

- 60 hz refresh rate x 2 streams

Then, using glasses which shutter 60 times per second and sync with the data stream, the user sees depth creating the cool 3D experience.

We all know 120 hz TVs are coming, and not the fake ones that are out now...but real 120 hz TVs that can take the 120 hz input and produce output...so there is nothing crazy about that.

However PS3 can not output 120 hz in 1 stream. HDMI 1.3 does not have the ability to do this. Therefore PS3 needs to do the 1080p video stream @ 60 HZ X 2!

I am not doubting the power of the PS3 but my computer that is much more powerful than current gen consoles can not do this. So we are all curious how this will work. 2 ps3s at the same time? Interlacing 1080p signal?

3d gaming on ps3 is another mistery which boggles the mind... cause PS3/360 cant run most games at 1080p X 1...let alone X 2...lol

Thanks for the heads up, that does indeed seem mysterious. Hopefully they will do well at pulling it off.
