Don't worry about that just yet, you'll still need to make a spear +7 and that will amount to the biggest consumption of souls, not the actual Scraping Spear.
You'll also gain more souls as you go to tougher levels, especially the 4-x worlds. In 4-2, the reapers give you 5K each, and they're pretty easy to kill, just 4 or 5 arrows and you can snipe them from afar ;)
