Well I would not be lying if I said I wanted PS3 to reclaim the throne, looks like it will never happen at this rate, maybe it' s a good thing though;) |
Yeah, like I'd be lying if I said I didn't like seeing Nintendo back on the throne, lol... but seriously, the PS3 doesn't need to outsell the Wii for it to see support (See: PSP vs DS). I just hope both consoles continue to do well, as I play on them more than handhelds.
Anyway, it's a bit late but people have been comparing game lineups and such. While PS3's 2010 lineup does look better, it needs to be, because the Wii currently has a much stronger lineup of past games. Look at how the older PS3 and Wii games did in 2009 - notice how the Wii has plenty of older releases in its top 20, while the PS3's is almost made up entirely of new games. The PS3 is driven by new games (that burn out quickly), while many Wiis are still pushed by older titles.
Looking at 2010 software sales, NSMB Wii, Wii Fit Plus, and WSR's total will be close to GT5, Versus, and Yakuza 4 combined. PokePark, Taiko 2 and Mario Kart will match FFXIII's leftovers and many of the smaller PS3 releases. While Software obviously does not directly translate to hardware sales, I just wanted to point out how the Wii's evergreens will be stronger than ever in 2010, whether they sell systems or not (as people point out sequels like Yakuza 4, anyway).
The PS3 is going to need to build up a huge lead in the first half to have any chance to outselling it overall. Although we have little info on each holiday lineup, the Vitality game and Zelda Wii are confirmed for 2010. Unless the PS3 has some huge game we don't know of in the works, the final quarter will belong to the Wii by a longshot.
