A controversial statement would be that WRPGs are simply Adventure games with combat and statsitics. |
To Akvod and Torillian:
WRPG's are games full of choice from becoming your protagonist (actual role playing) and making their decisions which affects the world around them and brings consequences or positivity. This covers more than Heavy Rain could ever cover in practice, because ultimately it is still a live or die concept. WRPG's are about more than just that. In Heavy Rain the consequence for your actions (if you cannot apply the button command on time) is really death, so you're not affecting the world around you. Take Mass Effect for instance....your actions which create prosperity, deals, bad blood, deaths side jobs, replacement, neutrality or whathaveyou are eventually found in the either the same game next part of the game spanning many galaxies. Your choices in Heavy Rain will never ever be as deep. It's not like I don't like the live or die concept, I am just saying it's quite simple.
