It happens when you think outside of the box. Nintendo took a big risk by going motion control but it paid off. When your Grandmother and Grandfather is playing a video game and NEVER had interest in games before? You got solid gold there.
Nintendo ran with the ball and MS + Sony stood by and watched. It wasn't until Nintendo took off with a stupid amount of sales before Sony decided to throw in the wand MS Natal. Tho I think neither will be as successful as Nintendo's Wii they will atleast be open minded on getting more of the non-gamer audience.
I also think the Wii will outsell the PS2 evetually. Even with a small price cut people were slaughtering each other at my store (Wal-Mart in the US here) for Wii's and saw the $50 price cut as a "God Send." in the holiday season. I can only imagine what kind of chaos Nintendo could casue with a further price drop next holiday season or a bundling of Wii Sports Resort or even New Super Mario Brothers Wii.
It's just that simple.
