The thing was GTA IV was to be the savior of hardcore gaming, the triumph of big, cinematic games over casual "non-games" like Mario Kart Wii (which did the sin of making it nearly impossible to win by playing it stictly like a racing game as MK DS did with snaking).

what has changed?

I do remember a lot of the gaming media predicting the release of GTA to be the end of the Wii's dominance.

Just revisited that thread. It was LOL awesome! Had forgotten how funny it was at the time.

LoL I just took a look at the thread too. Some people didnt want to believe NPD numbers after seeing how low went the PS360 HW compared to Wii despite the release of GTAIV.

To be fair, sometimes NPD numbers make no sense, even ioi questioned their numbers in that epic thread.
