The thing was GTA IV was to be the savior of hardcore gaming, the triumph of big, cinematic games over casual "non-games" like Mario Kart Wii (which did the sin of making it nearly impossible to win by playing it stictly like a racing game as MK DS did with snaking).

what has changed?

I do remember a lot of the gaming media predicting the release of GTA to be the end of the Wii's dominance.

I've no idea what individuals on VGChartz said what, I do however remember at least 2 links to external gaming websites and I one big online newspaper that predicted the Wii's fall on release of GTA.
