You should, I dunno, try actually playing the Wii, first. If you don't think the Wii remote can detect speed of motion, you cannot have even played the most basic title: Wii Sports. Tennis, Golf, and Bowling all clearly demonstrate the Wii remote's capacity to measure and translate swing speed.
