Does anyone know how Vgchartz started?
No but it was late 05/early 06 if I remember rightly, it had a main competitor called NexGenWars or something, but it failed, obviously 
When did it get the 10,917 visitors on the top hand corner of the website?
That's the highest score the website has ever had in one shot in terms of visitors (if you didn't get that already) It might have been when SPDK put up one of his top ten articles. I can tell you it was NOT the FFXIII announcement!
