Meghan Sullivan: Like Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy X was a major milestone for the franchise. Not only was it a huge leap forward in terms of graphics (dropping pre-rendered backgrounds for 3D areas) and gameplay (introducing the Conditional Turn-Based Battle system and allowing players to swap characters in and out of their party during battle), but it was the first Final Fantasy to feature voice acting. Or rather, it was the first to have a sequel until a game that came out ten years before it (FFIV) got a sequel five years later (FFIV: The After Years).

(Also, I might argue that the original Final Fantasy has had ~12 sequels.)

Apparently IGN has a lot of issues with fact checking lately, as in there is none, FFV is apparently also the first FF game with the active time battle system.
