I can understand why too. Let's take a look at something, if the PS fanbase is completely "split", why did MGS4 sell MORE than MGS3? Why will GOWIII probably have the biggest opening for a GOW title since the series first launched? Ratchet games this gen haven't really performed that much worse than past Ratchet games, and considering the userbase differences, Tools of Destruction performed on par with past games. The one that's the kicker is GTA, and the game would have performed just fine as a PS3 exclusive. So that last paragraph is quite flawed. |
Oooookay, was I naive for thinking that I would be treated fairly here? Maybe so. Maybe so . . .
I never stated that the PS fanbase is split 'evenly'. But its a fact that there are many PS and PS2 owners that are now 360 owners. Many are PS3 owners as well. That's all I meant.
Anyway, while MGS4 did sell more than MGS3, it sold less than MGS1 and 2. MGS3 (the best in the series, imo) suffered from a negative reaction to MGS2 and being released a month after GTA:SA. It should've sold much better, but I blame that on those that didn't buy it.
You can't say for sure about GoWIII because its not out yet, but the previous games had between 72-77% of its sales from NA, and that is not the PS3's strongest region. So why would this one blow away the sales of the previous games? If you are personally excited about it, that's great. But it doesn't change the facts that I used to come to my conclusion.
As far as my beloved R&C (that and Splinter Cell were my fav series last gen), if you look right here on VGC, you will see that the PS3 games have not sold as well as the PS2 games (not including Deadlocked, which was not an R&C game exactly).
As for GTA, even though you feel GTAIV would've sold fine (are you saying 'near as much as'?) as a PS3 exclusive, it wasn't. That's all speculative. The reality is that it was released as a multiplatform game and had most of its sales on the 360. And though you may say that GTA wasn't a PS series, the overwhelming majority of its sales were on the PS2, not the Xbox. It wasn't even close.
If you detect any animosity toward the PS or its games in those comments, then I don't know what else to do for you. I'm being as objective as possible here.
