Let's take a look at something, if the PS fanbase is completely "split", why did MGS4 sell MORE than MGS3?
|
It didn't in Japan. MGS4 was also the hyped-to-hell series debut on PS3, and didn't come even close to matching the correlating hyped-to-hell series debut on PS2 (MGS2). Had it been multiplatform it might have though (like DMC4 matching DMC1).
If MGS5 is a PS3 exclusive, it won't match MGS3 either.

Guess we'll never know, as I'm going to assume the series will remain multiplatform at this point. Either way, the PlayStation fanbase isn't split in Japan either. If anything, it's LESS split their than anywhere else in the world, so I stand by the initial point. If it was split in Japan, the JRPGs on the 360 would have performed significantly better.

Who said it went to 360? It went to DS/PSP.

The argument spawned from a comment that said: "The PlayStation fanbase has been split between the PS3 and 360". In Japan, this isn't correct, the place YOU mentioned.

I wasn't seriously asking, it's a figure of speech. Which might not come across so well in text, sorry.
I brought the conversation back to Japan since that's most on topic, but I don't think it's really off the mark to extrapolate that PS3's more limited market is a worldwide phenomenon. Loved PS2 franchises just aren't hitting the same benchmarks on PS3 alone, anywhere really.
