I seem to prefer PC style rpgs more than Japanese ones... My favortite of all time would probably be a tie between Baldur's Gate 2 and Ultima 7 (Black Gate and Serpent Isle). Both had amazing depth and variety. For recent games I really liked Oblivion except for a few problems that hindered my enjoyment (dungeons were too repetitive, game was unbalanced - you could enchant weapons and armor outrageously to practically make you invincible, monsters got stronger as you did - what's the point of levelling up if all the monsters level up with you?). Oblivion done with a few changes would have been truly amazing.
