Why does Nintendo take that long to make games compared to HD consoles?

As a 1st party developer, Nintendo have a general policy of making games that have long legs as per Iwata. Although this isn't exactly the case for some of its games but this is why their big games sell better than 3rd party games.
Nintendo is quality over quality.
"Less is More" is their policy which is good.
