What do you mean? Just look at Sonys financial reports in the last two quarters show that they would have been profitable if not for exchange rate. It could go as high as 4 quarters back or more.

2005 - 08 are easily explained by taking losses for the ps3 and increased competition on all sectors

Also, looking at the yearly exchange rates, in 2002, it was 130+ yen per dollar.

By 2005, that was 105 yen per dollar. After that, it increased in 2006 and 07 (where losses are explained by 850$ ps3 price tag).

08 saw a drop from 120 down to 112, and this year saw a drop from 112 to 89.

 

So, compared to the ps2 in 2002 (one of ps2s biggest years), they are making 40 yen less per dollar. From 130 to 90.

When Sony was taking huge losses, the exchange rate was good, when Sony was bringing in huge revenue, exchange rate was bad. It all balances out, but speaking more recently, exchange rate is the #1 enemy.

When you think DVD.  Do you think Toshiba, When you thin CD... do you think.. I don't even know.  Floppy disc drives?  Anyone.

Did a bunch of people buy into HD-DVD because it was from the people who made DVD? 

 

While the Playstation 2's success had a lot to do with the Playstation 1's success... near it's release Dreamcast sales had trouble because of PS2 anticipation.   The reason the Playstation 3 has done as well as it has is the Playstation 2.  Had Nintendo made the PS3, it would of sold worse, no doubt.

The Playstation 3's general failure in the market will carry over to the PS4... at least, initially... if the effect is significant it will carry on to PS5 as well.

 

Just how N64's failure carried on to Gamecube, and would of carried on to Wii had the Wii been more conevntional.

Well to be fair the PS4 and 5 might not be conventional either, so who knows how things will turn out.
