I'm playing FF8 again via PSN. What horrible lead character design, now that I realize it.. Back when I first played the game, I was a teenager.. So I guess I kinda shared his emo-ness. But now? Damn man, grow a set of balls will you?

I don't think I remember Squall saying that at all. He is not a self-loathing character, he is an elitist, self-loving arrogant character; his opposite is Laguna who is the opposite of elitist and is much more open. He is very similar to Matt Damon's character in Good Will Hunting. Like Matt Damon's character, Squall goes through a remarkable change throughout the game.

 

Though I am playing Final Fantasy 7 right now, and that seems similar to something Cloud has said because he was too weak to save his village.
