I know we don't have sales data for PC, but a lot of the Western RPGs sell well on PC and the general trend on PC is that games tend to have legs. Dragon Age was well-received on PC and it was widely publicised that the PC version was superior to the console ports. Oblivion and Fallout 3 too, and the console versions sold quite well. I believe The Witcher also sold well on PC and I remember reading a while back that it broke 1 million (for a PC game from a fairly small dev tis quite impressive). Then there is Mass Effect which sold well on top of Fable 2 that you mentioned. I don't doubt that Mass Effect 2, Witcher 2, Fallout: Vegas, Fable 3 and Elder Scrolls V will all sell well when released.
And I haven't even started on the monster that is World of Warcraft or other MMORPGs.
So, it's probably more accurate to say that "There are a few JRPG fans, but lots of Final Fantasy fans", because WRPGs this gen seem to be selling OK.
