Microsoft is doing fine - they have a huge install base compared to the PS3, only did one price cut, have better financials and are already getting profit out of their console.

PS3's achievement of tracking behind 360's sales so far is like winning an honorable mention for third place - congratulations, you managed to track behind an expensive console competing against the PS2, and had to cut your price by 33% in one year (or less, in Europe) in order to maintain the sales momentum.

Sorry to be blunt, but it's just the way it is. In 2008 things might improve for Sony, but they need nothing short of a spectacular comeback to be on the lead (against the 360, the Wii is just unreachable for anyone).

Sony had to reduce its price quickly due to its high price point and as it stands now they are not too far away from reaching mass market price. I think its also important to take into consideration other factors besides price. I for one chose a ps3 over the 360 mainly due to its far greater stability. I think having a problem like the rrod issue is inexcusable and 2 years after its launch should have been more than enough time to fix the problem unless the design is so seriously flawed that it's not possible.

Microsoft is extremely fortunate that the US market has been so forgiving for this monumental stuff up. And like someone mentioned earlier most of the AAA x-box games are fps which I also prefer to play on my pc.
