The 2nd-hand software market is huge as well for the PS2. PS2 hardware is cheap, and no one buys new PS2 software - just 2nd hand software.

Clearly people still do buy PS2 software shams :D

PES'08 on PS2 is expected to sell between 200-300k in Japan this week.

WWE Smackdown vs Raw sold 250k on the PS2 in America last week.

It's amazing the system can still have releases that reach these huge numbers.

The numbers aren't huge - they are terrible.

Its still doing some decent week#1 figures - but legs for PS2 titles have completely vanished. Have a look at the latest Japanese charts - the top ranking PS2 title is at #45! They struggle to get more than 4 or 5 weeks in the top#50 - which (for a console with a 20m+ install base) is terrible.

Big profile titles are struggling to do 300k - which used to be week#1 sales. God of War II did 30k. Seaman II did 50k. Liberty City Stories did 60k.

I'm not sure what the 2nd-hand title market is like in Japan - but I can assure you that around 80%-90% of all PS2 software sales in Australia - are 2nd hand titles (or extreme-markdown titles). Full price, new titles are basically not selling.
