To get a better comparison, you should add release dates. FFXIII's push is hugely impressive, but it really needs to be noted it's happening in the holiday season too (which is also a major hardware driver).

yeah but they do give gifts or at least money on news years.  They celebrate xmas mostly for couples to have a romantic night.  There should really be no argument here though, look at Japan sales right now, they are like this every year.

i remenber last year there was a thread about it. japan bumps arent' as big as western cultures.

The boost begins at the start of December traditionally, with bumps weekly until the 1st week of January.  PS3 skyrocketed this week, but it'd still have likely sold 100-150k anyway without FFXIII.

actually ps3 boosted only to 79k previous week.
