History is definitely repeating itself. The Wii is the spiritual sequel to the NES. No console has reminded me more of the NES than Wii.
My older brother always likes to remind me that it was he who convinced my parents to buy me a NES because he hated me playing his C64. NES was for kids, a baby machine. He didn't like my NES very much with its simple, gimmicky controls. His attitude towards consoles/Nintendo changed dramatically when the SNES released.
The NES, like the Wii has returned arcade gaming to our homes and to the top of the sales charts where they belong. Look at the library of Wii v HD and it is very reminiscent of NES v Computer games. Consoles were supposed to be the arcades as home. If the arcades were still alive today they'd be full of Wii games not the competitions.
