Mario is extremely "pick up and play". It's also the original game that turned non-gamers into gamers, hence SMB sold 40 million on the NES!

That was the nes days. If you wanted to play games at all, you played mario. I played mario on nes and snes as well but I dont play it anymore simply because I prefer other game types now. There are lots of options now and a big portion of mario sales is still nostalgia. newcomers would have a lot more choices this time around and I just dont see mario 5 being the "first choice" like it was before...not even on wii itself.

The NES days were much smaller than the Wii days. I don't expect NSMB to have the same sort of attach ratio as SMB (over 60%). It doesn't need it to reach 30 million though. If the Wii carries on towards 120mill, it only needs a 25% attach ratio which is lower than MKWii and Wii Fit's current attach ratio. And personally, I think 120 mill is lowballing it for the Wii.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
